Faster Treatments

Sciton Profile utilizes not one but two Long Pulse 1064 nm lasers. Combined with the Large Area Scanner, treatment times can be up to six times faster than other systems. This is especially beneficial on large, tedious areas such as backs and legs. The scanner size of the Sciton ranges up to 3.1cm by 3.1cm with a 6 mm or 5 mm spot size. Other systems are (on average) can be as small as 3 mm and as large as 15 mm on others. These spot size on these systems can not be changed to suit the size of the area being treated, where as the Sciton is extremely flexible ranging from mm's to cm's all in one treatment. Another amazing quality of our Sciton is the spot size. It can be either 5 mm or 6mm (we have one of each). A small spot size is important when treating fine hairs; you need to have a combination of high energy and quick exit from the hair shaft to reduce the risk of burning the skin. This can only be done utilizing a small spot size

In an effort to destroy hair follicles, lasers target pigment granules know as melanin(found in the hair). Hair follicles are capable of producing hair of various thickness and color. The darker the hair, the more melanin. Again, melanin serves as the target for energy that is delivered by the laser. The laser energy is absorbed by the pigmented hair shaft and transferred to the surrounding follicles. The heat build-up caused by the absorption of energy into the hair itself is what causes the follicular damage and thus leads to the prevention of future hair production by the follicle.

Pulses of laser light will gently pass through the skin to the hair follicle. The infra-red laser light turns to heat which disables the follicles and leaves surrounding skin unchanged. The special large cooling plate on the Sciton protects the skin during treatment for ultimate comfort and safety. Sciton removes unwanted hair as safe as possible without damaging delicate pores and structures of the skin. During a treatment, the laser light eradicates hundreds of hair follicles within seconds.

 

Treatement Areas

The Sciton Profile can treat every part of the external body safely except for the eyebrows. It is difficult to sculpt the eyebrows with the laser.

Even with extensive eye protection, it's not advised to treat the area so close to the retina due to the melanin sheath located in the back of the eye.

Growth Cycles

The hair on our body grows in cycles. There are three phases of hair growth per cycle.
They are:

1. Anagen
2. Catagen
3. Telogen

The first phase of the cycle is when hair removal works. It is the only phase of the cycle where the hair is still attached to the follicle. The heat from the laser then travels down the shaft of the hair and penetrates the follicle. When this happens, the heat will destroy the follicle and it will no longer be able to produce hair. There is usually no more than about 20% to 30% of our hairs in the Anagen phase at any given time. This is one of the main reasons why a person needs multiple treatments for laser hair removal.

BBL Hair Removal

BBL Hair Removal (Also referred to as IPL)

Hair removal with BBL is another method of reducing and eliminated unwanted hair. This treatment uses the science of light to significantly reduce hair by targeting and injuring hair follicles without harming the surrounding skin.

How it works

BBL, short for Broad Band Light, is a treatment that removes hair through a process called photoepilation, which is based on the principle of selective photothermolysis. This means that the light energy is absorbed in the target hair follicles while sparing the surrounding, healthy tissue. While it is still a light source, BBL works differently than conventional laser systems. Instead, BBL systems use a broad light spectrum of light with wavelengths ranging from 590 to 1200 nm (green, yellow, orange, red and infrared). The wavelengths emit light energy in carefully timed pulses to maximize the effectiveness of the treatment, decrease the risk of skin damage and minimize pain.

During the treatment, a gel is applied to the treatment area in order to focus the light energy and cool the top skin layer. A handheld device is then placed on the skin and the treatment begins. The light energy heats and damages the hair follicle, typically causing the hair to fall out from the follicle. BBL technology allows your technician to provide a procedure that is gentle and non-invasive, with nominal side effects.

BBL systems can also be customized to your specific skin colour, hair colour and hair density. As a result, it can be used on a wide range of hair colours, from light brown to dark black hair. It also removes hair from all skin types - from porcelain white through olive to dark brown complexions. Hair on most parts of the body can be treated, no matter how deep the follicles reside. Sensitive areas like the lips, ears, nose, underarms, and bikini line can usually be easily tolerated.

BBL can also treat very large areas at one time. Approximately 100 to 200 hairs can be treated with each flash of the light so that large patches of hair on the legs, back and chest can be treated quickly in a single session. It can also be used for small delicate areas as well. Because of the length of time associated with other hair removal treatments, such as electrolysis, BBL may be a fast way to achieve a hair-free look.

As with other laser procedures, multiple treatment sessions are typically required for long-lasting hair removal.

Other than keeping the treated area protected from sunlight for a few weeks, you can return to your full, normal routines immediately. Slight redness, similar to a mild sunburn, may occur, which usually disappears over a few days.

When using BBL for hair removal it is very important to be out of the sun for minimum 1 month. During the summer months when being exposed to sunshine our 1064ndyag would be the appropriate choice of systems to be used.
