Tattoos are form of personal expression. For many, meaningful imagery permanently transforms the body into a work of art, essentially making your skin a blank canvas. While some argue that tattoos are an addiction, others say it’s merely a passion for beauty and meaning.
However you view tattooing, those with their body fully inked will often tell you that one tattoo usually sparks the desire for another. So whether you have a full sleeve or are thinking it’s time to go under the needle, there are a few things you’ll want to consider beforehand — especially if you’ve always wanted to undergo laser hair removal.
We don’t have to tell you the benefits and ease of never having to shave again (because we list them here!). However, before you get your next tattoo, the hair removal process needs to be completed beforehand. Why? Because if the laser goes over your art work, it causes a very bad burn, followed by scarring and a total loss of colour.

The picture above is an example of how our medical estheticians have had to completely avoid this area of the ankle, while the rest of the leg is smooth and hairless. Unfortunately the most common areas of the body that people want laser hair removal also happen to be equally as trendy for tattoos, such as the back, legs, and arms. For guys who want a smooth, tattooed chest, we’re unable to perform a treatment without risking the integrity of your ink and safety of your skin.
Tattoos are not only a financial investment, but also a personal one, so taking care of it is of the utmost importance. For fresh tattoos, use Hydrogel to speed up the healing process and avoid infection. And now that summer is looming around the corner, make sure to purchase physical sunblock to keep the colour from fading. We love the Osmosis Shade SPF 30 as it’s designed for daily use and protects against the damaging effects of both UVA and UVB rays. This high-performance, luxurious sunscreen/moisturizer is ideal for all skin types and can be applied under makeup.

Tattoos are beautiful ways of artistry and self-expression, but if you’ve always wanted to try laser hair removal, you’ll want to consider the consequences if you do one before the other.

For many tattoo enthusiasts, the body is a blank canvas that’s meant to be adorned with art. Whether it’s a tribute to someone you love, an inspiring quote, or just a beautiful piece that reflects your personality, tattoos have always been a popular form of self-expression, dating all the way back to 4th millennium BC.

With the Vancouver Tattoo and Culture Show coming up this weekend, many will be flocking to the Convention Centre to meet their favourite artists, even sitting down for new ink of their own. However, as medical estheticians, we know all too well that more people are concerned with what they put on their skin rather than how they’ll take care of it afterwards.
If you’ve ever received a tattoo, you know how painful it can be. Needles create puncture wounds deep into your epidermis and fill them with ink. This means there are open lesions that are susceptible to infection. That’s why we highly recommend ProDerm Hydrogel, a dermo-calming and lightly moisturizing product that rapidly soothes sensitive skin, especially after trauma caused by tattooing. It’s comprised of 40% organic Aloe which regenerate the skin’s protective film.

Aloe has a long record of external use in treating skin burns, irritations and disorders. It is high in vitamins and minerals, and is analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and reparative. We can attest that it helps heal your tattooed area so much faster than without!
In tandem with your Hydrogel, you should also use the Osmosis Shade, a broad-spectrum physical sunscreen that protects against the damaging effects of both UVA and UVB rays. Whether it’s paint on a canvas or ink on your skin, tattoos are susceptible to fade over time. This process is sped up even more after direct sunlight without SPF protection. To avoid having your ink look faded and dull, it’s so important to apply this high-performance, luxurious sunscreen throughout the day.
In fact, the Osmosis Shade is much safer and more effective than chemical sunscreens, which is what you typically find in drug stores. These are made up of more than 12 different chemicals, many of which have not been FDA approved. When absorbed into the skin, they can interfere with the normal function of hormones like estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and thyroid. We offer free skin analysis and can examine if the products you’re using are putting you at risk, as well as recommend safe and effective alternatives.
