Sciton Profile BBL providing a solution to Rosacea
Rosacea is a common disorder of the facial skin that affects millions worldwide, unfortunately many sufferers have been left undiagnosed. While it is widespread it varies substantially from one patient to another, therefore finding a one fits all solution can be difficult. Rosacea can be physically uncomfortable and sadly often significantly effects self-confidence, and self-esteem. At Urban Body Laser our medispa offers effective skincare solutions for sufferers, you should seek our help if you experience the following symptoms:
- Redness on the nose, cheeks, chin or forehead.
- Bumps or pimples on the face.
- Small visible blood vessels on the face.
- Watery or irritated eyes.
Rosacea can vary from person to person with different depths of severity, below we’ve outlined the more common types:
- Facial Redness (Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea)
Rosacea sufferers experience flushing and persistent facial redness. In some patients, small blood vessels may become visible and symptoms that may occur includes swelling, stinging, burning, and roughness or scaling.
- Bumps and Pimples (Papulopustular Rosacea)
Many rosacea patients also suffer from bumps and pimples in addition to persistent redness. Some patients also experience raised red patches known as plaque.
- Enlargement of the Nose (Phymatous Rosacea)
Rosacea may be associated with a condition known as rhinophyma indicating an enlargement of the nose from excess tissue. This may include thickening of the skin and irregular surface nodules, which in rare cases may also develop in areas other than the nose.
- Eye Irritation (Ocular Rosacea)
In many patients, Rosacea affects the eyes resulting to a watery or bloodshot appearance, irritation and burning or stinging. The eyelids may also become swollen, and styes are common.
Patients can improve their chances of being Rosacea free by identifying and avoiding lifestyle and environmental factors that may trigger flare-ups or aggravate their individual conditions. Identifying these factors is an individual process since what causes a flare-up for one person may have no effect on another. These factors are:
- Sun exposure
- Spicy foods
- Indoor heat
- Certain skin-care products
- Heated beverages
- Certain cosmetics
- Cold weather
- Emotional stress
- Hot weather
- Heavy exercise
- Alcohol consumption
- Hot baths
One of the treatments we utilize at Urban Body Laser is BBL (Boadband Light) or Intense Pulsed Light. One of the ways we know that a person is afflicted with Rosacea is when the vessels and capillaries in the face are visible because of redness and inflammation. What BBL does is use a bright flash of visible light to close down the blood vessels and capillaries. A lot of people do not know that BBL uses a specific filter which only releases a precise color of light which will be absorbed by the blood vessels of the skin. This means that the BBL light beam will only have an effect on the dilated blood vessels which will cause the blood vessels to close down. Normal skin won’t be affected by the BBL light beam. The closed down blood vessels, capillaries and red appearance of the face will be reduced.
Contrary to popular belief, BBL is actually one of the safest laser treatments that are available in the market. Many lasers can leave scars or other marks and this is the reason why BBL treatment is often the treatment of choice for Rosacea and other skin treatments.
The full results will be visible after about 5 weeks after the first treatment, but many report a reduction in symptoms much sooner. Your treatment schedule may vary, but usually moderate to severe cases are treated 3 times with 5 weeks interval.
People who are afflicted with Rosacea have sensitive skin so the skincare products and cosmetics that they use have to be hypoallergenic. It is important that the products you choose have anti-inflammatory properties. Our Calm line of R3 Derma Health skincare products were specifically designed to treat Rosacea and those with sensitive skin.
Our Photofacial procedure is relatively painless and takes only 30 to 40 minutes to complete in the our Medispa. Photofacial treatments also requires less downtime than other more invasive or complex treatments.
