What is Microneedling for Décolletage?
As women age, their skin loses elasticity and fine lines and wrinkles can begin to develop. This happens from a decrease in collagen production as well as sun damage.
Women begin to notice these changes on their face first, and as a result give their facial skin all of their attention. They may try microdermabrasion treatments or use any other form of skin rejuvenation treatments and use special cleansers and moisturizers that will help plump and rejuvenate their skin.
Meanwhile, other areas of their body that are also experiencing skin changes often get ignored. A décolletage is just a fancy French term used to describe a woman’s chest and cleavage area. And unfortunately, if this area goes ignored for too long, it can give away a woman’s age, even though her face is trying to tell a different story.
You may have seen individuals with crêpey neck skin, deep creases between their cleavage, and age spots all over the chest. Unfortunately, many people stop their sun protection and anti-aging efforts at the chin.
The truth is, after the eye area, the skin of the décolletage is the most prone to sun damage and rapid aging. Not only is the skin more delicate, but there is also the stress on the skin from movement, the weight of the breasts and frequent exposure to UV damage.
The good news is, there are treatments that can improve the appearance of the décolletage. The same non-invasive procedures that give the face a more vibrant and youthful appearance also work well on the delicate décolletage area. One of those procedures is called microneedling.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a skin-rejuvenating procedure that uses tiny needles to create punctures in the very top layer of the skin in the décolletage area. Microneedling was once an old-school beauty treatment, but it is making a big comeback with A-listers such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and the Kardashians singing its praises.
While the idea of poking tiny holes in your face might sound painful, if not a tad crazy, when done properly, the procedure is painless and risk-free, and offers huge benefits for your skin.
The entire process takes roughly 30 minutes and begins with a numbing cream being applied to the area. Once the cream has taken effect, the tiny needles are moved across the skin using a small handheld microneedling pen device.
Microneedling is like giving your body’s natural healing abilities a jump start. The result is smoother, firmer, younger-looking décolletage skin. By promoting collagen growth, microneedling can actually help reverse the signs of aging not just on the face, but other areas of the body as well such as the décolletage area.
How Long Do Microneedling Results Last?
Typically, a series of three to five microneedling treatments, spaced 4-5 weeks apart, is suggested, and then maintenance treatments as needed. The 4 phases of healing take 28 days. Once the 5 are complete we recommend seasonal or twice yearly depending on age and damage to skin. Aging never stops so neither should needling treatments expecially for exposed areas such as the décolletage.
A Word of Caution for Décolletage
Because microneedling has become a popular trend, many at-home microneedling kits have hit the market but these kits do not provide the same results as an in office treatment and can come with a risk of infection and scarring if the needles are not sterilized properly.

Putting your décolletage skin in the healthiest state possible will help to minimize/remove any complications. There are holes being put into the skin and when unhealthy products are applied after treatments – those unhealthy ingredients can actually get into the deeper layers and cause infection or adverse reactions. When our guests come in for a consultation we have them bring everything they put on their face and décolletage in order to check for unhealthy or dangerous ingredients and give them the list of all the ingredients that cannot be used. If their products are not healthy – we either won’t treat them or recommend healthier products.
