Let’s Talk About Teen Skin, Shall We? Mother-Daughter Time
Moms, let US have the sometimes ‘difficult’ conversation with your daughters…
As young girls, their bodies start to change. Things happen, like growing hair in places where there never was before. Then, there’s the awkward conversation of underarm body odor. The hair in the underarm area causes bacterial growth which leads to body odor. There’s also the possibility of hair growth on the face which can cause added stress and self-consciousness in an already stressful world for teens.
Rest assured, because we can have those conversations with your teens on how to combat all the above. Removing hair in the underarm area can help with body odor as well as the inconvenience of them having to shave if that’s the path they have chosen. We can have the conversation that they are not alone, and we see this all the time and we can help them get through some of these awkward moments of entering the puberty years by giving her options on how to take care of these perhaps unwanted hairs.
Another big one is, all of a sudden, the skin on their faces becomes oilier and more congested. Mom may not be so sure what to do, so might go out and purchase off-the-counter products to help combat the issues they are having on their skin. Then, moms may be inclined to purchase off-the-counter cosmetics to aid in hiding or disguising these blemishes because their daughter perhaps feel self conscious. This may sometimes worse matters depending on the quality of the makeup.
We know from experience that this doesn’t always work out as hoped. When Urban Body Laser owner Janiece Wiens was a teenager, her mom did that for her. Her mom’s heart was in the right place, however, not knowing how choosing an incorrect product for the condition of Janiece’s skin didn’t help.
It’s also important to have products with high quality ingredients and not products with fillers so as to avoid the congestion. Congestion may come from a few different ways. One is the overproduction of oil in the skin and not washing it off correctly, but it can also come from the fillers in the skin care and from the cosmetics being applied to the skin.
We educate moms and teens that come into our clinic on all the correct methods of cleansing, the right products and treatments that are safe and effective to help their daughters gain confidence and feel better about themselves.
We also take the time to educate on what products are best suited to use on her skin so she will not only see an improvement but will learn a nice, easy, and quick routine on how to maintain. As the seasons and our weather changes, we will also guide her on which products she’ll need to help maintain the healthy skin she has.
And Mom, you’re always welcome to be a part of the journey here with her and maybe even learn some really wonderful things to help your skin and hair issues as well.
